Best Time to Do AnythingORIGINAL AIRDATE: 2/27/2007
Jamie Zanginer of Real Simple Magazine offered some practical tips to help make the most out of your day.
Have you ever wondered if there's a perfect time to grocery shop, travel, or go to the DMV? Well INSIDE EDITION did, and went to Jamie Zanginer from Real Simple magazine for some tips that can streamline any routine.
Visiting the DMVOne of the worst places to waste time is at the Department of Motor Vehicles. So experts say try to make an appointment, and if you can't, avoid the morning rush and go mid-week.
Post OfficeAnother time waster is standing in line at the post office. Zanginer said the best time to go is a half-hour after the doors open for the day. "You miss that early morning rush for the door from the people who are waiting for it to open," Zanginer said.
Going Grocery ShoppingZanginer suggests going early morning, midweek when the shelves are fully stocked. "The aisles are usually empty," she said. "There are not a lot of shoppers, the checkout lines are fully staffed and the shelves are really stocked with fresh ingredients."
And if you're buying fresh fish at the grocery store, Thursdays are a good day. That's when shipments for the weekend typically arrive.
Trying on ShoesBelieve it or not, there's even a best time to try on shoes! Go at the end of the day, because your feet actually swell during the day, so you want to make sure that any shoes you buy are going be comfortable when your feet are their largest.
Going to the DoctorIf you have to visit the doctor, schedule an appointment for first thing in the morning or right after lunch. That's when doctors are still on schedule, and if you're having surgery, early morning is best.
"Try to get one of the doctor's first appointments," Zanginer said. "That's when you eliminate wait times and it's also great because if you have any fasting to do you don't spend that whole day hungry."
Asking for a RaiseWhen is the best time to ask your boss for a raise? Experts say the middle of the week, towards the end of the day. He or she just might be in a good mood because they are about to go home!
Booking FlightsThe best time to book a flight is Wednesday morning from midnight to 2 a.m., when cheap fares flood the market. FlyingThe best time to fly depends on Mother Nature. To avoid weather delays, travel between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.. You'll also avoid airport rush hour.
Cleaning the HouseThere's even a best time to clean the house - four in the afternoon. That's when you're in the best mood of the day and hand-eye coordination is at its peak.
Getting Your Picture TakenIf you want to look picture perfect, take your picture towards the end of the day when your eyes are less puffy and you're more awake.
With all these tips, you just might get back a few moments to do something really important.
