pharisee and the publican john bunyan

something we christains need to remember

Then you will be thankful(Thomas Watson, "The Godly Man'sPicture Drawn with a Scripture Pencil)If you wish to be thankful, get a heart deeply humbled with the sense of your own vileness. A broken heart is the best pipe to sound forth God's praise. He who studies his sins, wonders that he has anything, and that God should shine on such a dunghill: "I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man--but I was shown mercy!" (1 Timothy 1:13). How thankful Paul was! How he trumpeted forth free grace! A proud man will never be thankful. He looks on all his mercies as either of his own procuring or deserving. If he has an estate, this he got by his wits and industry; not considering that scripture, "Always remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you power to become rich" (Dt. 8:18). Pride stops the current of gratitude. O Christian, think of your unworthiness; see yourself as the least of saints, and the chief of sinners--and then you will be thankful.

saved by the bell;jesse,me and the gospel

In the last decade i worked at barnes and noble and one day the actress who played jesse on saved by the bell came in. Everyone was adoraing her, oogling her, worshipping her and serving hand in foot-but me. The same quality service i gave the customers i gave to her regardless of who they are. She just kept on after me to serve her,to recognize her to worship her like all the others. This has a direct bearing on the gospel in this sense: we,like that actress what to be recognized, known by our name. There is one person that should know us -that we should in the upmost want to be known by them and to know: that person is Jesus Christ......

14 I am the good shepherd; and I know mine own, and mine own know me,
15 even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. (John 10:14-15)

33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

(Matthew 25:33-46)

8Indeed, I count everything as loss because of(A) the surpassing worth of(B) knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I(C) have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having(D) a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but(E) that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10(F) that I may know him and(G) the power of his resurrection, and(H) may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11that by any means possible I may(I) attain the resurrection from the dead.
Straining Toward the Goal 12Not that I have already(J) obtained this or(K) am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.

(Philippians 3:8-12)

2For I resolved to know nothing (to be acquainted with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing) among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2)

6For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings(hosea 6:6)

A Sermon That Has Angered Many - Examine Yourself

2 Corinthians 13:5:
5Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith.(A) Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that(B) Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

1 John 1:6-8:
6(A) If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and(B) do not practice the truth. 7But(C) if we walk in the light,(D) as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and(E) the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8(F) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and(G) the truth is not in us.

The Schemer's Plans by m.clark

I came across this post may it bless us all:

For Wednesday, August 8, 2007Proverbs 24:8-9Whoever plans to do evil will be called a schemer. The devising of folly is sin,and the scoffer is an abomination to mankind.

Wickedness is wickedness however it is carried out. But as the law affirms, it is especially repugnant to devise wickedness. Some people "fall" into sin, yielding against their better judgment. But the schemer plans his evil. He uses his ability to reason for the express purpose of causing mischief.Consider the drug dealer who uses business acumen to run an elaborate, sophisticated business complex. Consider the thief who studies how to carry out a crime with the same meticulous attentiveness as any scholar. There is the businessman who out of greed and ambition uses his talent and expertise to manipulate the system and gain undue advantage over others. There is a sadness about such persons. For one considers not only the crimes committed, but the good that goes undone that these persons were capable of. What if such schemers used their abilities for good? What all could be done? How much good goes undone? And then there is the scoffer who is an abomination. Again, the problem is not merely that he ridicules, but that he uses his mental skills to mock rather than for productive good. Scoffing is the lazy man's use of mental wit. Unlike the schemer who turns to wickedness out of ambition, the scoffer turns to destructive ridicule out of lack of ambition. Both live wasted lives. What are your plans today? To advance your own cause or the cause of Christ? To shoot down the efforts of others or build others up? It is not good to know the plans of your Lord today for you? Whatever exactly they may be, they are for your good.

TAROT CARDS AND THE GOSPEL???

this is so anti-gospel:

The deck of cards by t.texas tyler

Honestly i did not know how to make of this when it was shared at the church i visited this is the non catholic version-all i can say is a little leven ruins the whole bread meaning where do we draw the line?? start using tarot cards as witnessing tools???

A young soldier was in his bunkhouse all alone one Sunday morning. It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't made a noise. The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week. As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk.Just then an Army Sergeant came in and asked, "Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?"The soldier replied, "I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the Lord."The sergeant said, "Looks like you're going to play cards."The soldier said, "No sir, you see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country, I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards."The sergeant asked in disbelief, "How will you do that?""You see the Ace, Sergeant, it reminds that there is only one God.The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments. The Three represents the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The Four stands for the Four Apostles: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The Five is for the five virgins, there were ten, but only five of them were glorified. The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and Earth. The Seven is for the day God rested after working the six days. The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives, in which God saved the eight people from the flood that destroyed the earth for the first time. The Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy. He cleansed ten but nine never thanked Him.The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone. The Jack is a reminder of Satan. One of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now the Joker of eternal hell. The Queen stands for the Virgin Mary. The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings. When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year. There are a total of 52 cards in a deck, each is a week, 52 weeks in a year. The four suits represents the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Each suit has thirteen cards, there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter. So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for."The sergeant just stood there and after a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, "Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?"
Please let this be a reminder and take time to pray for all of our soldiers who are being sent away, putting their lives on the line fighting for us.

looking at someone elses shoes

Never look at what the person(s) in front of you is wearing-with contempt, pride, pharisee, mockery, indifference, compassionless etc because you might one day wear a similar pair or worse.....
3For(D) by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you(E) not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment,(F) each according to(G) the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4For(H) as in one body we have many members,[c] and the members do not all have the same function,(rom 12:3-4)
10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary,(C) I worked harder than any of them,(D) though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. (1 cor 15:11)
17 Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (1tim 6:17)
1Do not boast about tomorrow, (A) for you do not know what a day may bring.(prov 27:1)
19And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up(A) for many years; relax,(B) eat, drink, be merry.'20But God said to him,(A) 'Fool!(B) This night(C) your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared,(D) whose will they be?'(luke 12:19-20)
13Come now, you who say,(A) "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For(A) you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

a perfect example of a depraved sense of humor

when humor and trying to sell a buck-goes beyond moral decency. The ad reads:

your clost space is shrinking as fast as her right to choose......

God's living rainbow:christains of all races, tongues and nations

The Lord has two heavens(Thomas Watson, "Body of Divinity")"Just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written--Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:15-16God is not drawn to any person's outward beauty, great abilities, noble blood or worldly grandeur. But He is drawn to a heart embellished with holiness. Christ never admired anything but the beauty of holiness. He slighted the glorious buildings of the temple--but admired the woman's faith, and said, "O woman, great is your faith!" As a king delights to see his image upon a piece of coin; so where God sees His likeness--He gives His love! The Lord has two heavens to dwell in--and the holy heart is one of them!

Dog the bounty hunter and the gospel

In a rerun of dog the bounty hunter-in it after chasing a fugitive who went to church and was active in it-he commented in sharing the gospel or the way as he calls it-other fugitives do not know the way but this fugitive knows the way-so he has a better chance to change his life.

I love the dog but you cannot assume this....

Did the church the fugitive went to:

taught him to put his faith on Christ or his works:

answering a altar call

baptized as a infant

participation in church activities??? etc

brought him to the foot of Christ of the bible or to the foot of man's imagination of christ

brought him to the gospel in the pages of the Bible or the gospel according to the world?

in evangelism/witnessing you do not assume but share the true gospel as if they never ever heard it before--maybe they havent........
